DBF Free Online DBF Viewer for FoxPro and dBase Files

No Visual FoxPro. No ODBC driver. No Windows. The table opens in this browser tab.

Pick the table together with its memo and index

A DBF table is often three files with one name. The viewer matches them by name, so pick them in one go:

  1. 1Pick or drop the .dbf with its .fpt and .cdx, or the .dbc with its .dct, .dcx and tables.
  2. 2Browse the rows, then join tables in SQL when the answer spans more than one.
  3. 3Export that result as CSV, JSON or Parquet.

What it can do, and where it stops

See how the tables of a .dbc relate

A .dbc stores persistent relations between its tables. The Diagram tab draws them with each table's primary key; select a table to follow its relations.

What the viewer reads besides the rows

What each part of a FoxPro table or database becomes in the viewer:

In your filesIn the viewer
Visual FoxPro typesCurrency, DateTime, Integer, Double, Varchar, Varbinary, Blob and nullable fields arrive as typed columns. Currency stays exact.
Memo files: .fpt, .dbt, .dctMemo text, and binary memos such as General and Picture fields, load into their columns.
CodepageTaken from the table header, so Cyrillic and Eastern European tables open with the right letters.
.dbc databaseLong table and field names, primary keys, and the relations, drawn in the Diagram tab.
.cdx indexTag names and expressions in the file panel, primary and candidate keys marked.
Deleted rowsHidden, as FoxPro hides them. The file panel gives their count.
.idx, .ntx and .mdx indexesNot read.

Nothing leaves the tab

The file is opened from your disk and read where it sits, so there is no upload and no copy on a server. Queries are read-only, which means the file you opened is the file you still have, and closing the tab leaves nothing behind.

Common questions

Which DBF files does it open?

Visual FoxPro and FoxPro 2 tables, and dBase III and IV tables. A file that is not a DBF table, or is damaged, is reported as such rather than shown empty.

What if I pick the .dbf without its memo file?

The table still opens. Its memo columns are empty, and the viewer names them together with the file it is missing, so you can pick the set again.

The text shows the wrong letters. What now?

The table carries no codepage mark, so it opened as Windows-1252. Pick the right codepage in the file panel and the table is read again.

How large a table can it open?

There is no fixed limit: the tables are held in the tab's memory, so the machine sets the ceiling. Loading shows its progress row by row. An export writes the first 10,000 rows free and the whole result with PRO.

Can I edit the table?

No. The viewer runs SELECT and WITH queries only and never writes to your files.

Prefer to keep a .dbf or .dbc file in your editor?

The browser is for a quick answer. Install the local viewer in your editor to keep working with the file beside your code.
